He gets angry and severs their connection.
At the end of Ruin and Rising, the Darkling panics and is distraught over her loss of power, realizing she was no longer his balance and he was truly alone in the world. Alina uses this lark to stab him, although information technology is almost framed as a mercy kill. She cries over his body, and obeys his request to non have a grave that people can desecrate. The Darkling's corpse is subsequently burned. Although in the end Alina somewhat mourned the Darkling's death, she didn't regret her decision. Nikolai Lantsov [ ]
